Prey was my third professional project. This was the first project in which I was a member of the certification team; specifically I was a part of the Sony certification team. I spent much of my time on the project learning what Sony deems as acceptable to ship on their platform, and in turn reporting anything in our game that may go against that.
Prey was generally well received. For many, it was the genre defining immersive sim of 2017. Prey debuted to a PC Metacritic rating of 82, alongside PS4 and XB1 ratings of 79 and 84 respectively. It was also nominated for Best Action Game at The Game Awards 2017 (Only losing to another title I worked on, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus).
Learning the certification process on Prey was very eye opening, and I enjoy certification testing as it allows me to gain a larger perspective when testing. Not only do we have to look out for what players might find and be negatively impacted by, but we also must unearth any issues that may cause first party issues throughout the submission process.
