Overview:

Nordic Fury is a 2D side-scrolling action game where the player controls a warrior trapped behind enemy lines, struggling for survival. The ultimate goal of Nordic Fury is to guide the player character back to safety, and to do as much damage as possible to the opposition along the way. The player must defeat enemies without themselves taking damage in order to survive each level with enough health to defeat a boss. They must also complete each level given the allotted time.

Platform: PC

Genre: Fantasy, 2D Actoin/Adventure

Development Time: 5 Weeks

Team Size: 6

Role: Game Designer, Character Artist

My Take:

For the development of Nordic Fury, I took was relieved of the producer role and as such I took on the role of one of the character artists as well as fulfilling the role of game designer. While still in a leadership position on the team, I was no longer a part of deadline management and some of the major tasks that producers do. Our producer was productive and it was interesting to work from the other side for once. It helped me to learn not to push my team members too hard, and watching another producer’s management style gave me ideas on how to better improve my own. As far as the interests of the team goes on this project, our goal was to expand upon our design with Let’s Play a Game and to create a fully functional action/ adventure game. While I feel that we fell short of some of those goals, I think we made some positive steps with this game. We implemented some more sophisticated gameplay elements such as the fury meter and combat systems, and I feel that our artists pumped out a large quantity of solid pixel art.
